Bedfordview’s Air Traffic and Navigation Services open entries for AVI Awards

The awards recognise people who contribute to aviation innovation through intelligent ideas and designs, especially those of products and processes aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the aviation industry.

The fourth annual AVI Awards run by Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS), based in Bedfordview, opened for entries on August 2.

The awards recognise people who contribute to aviation innovation through intelligent ideas and designs, especially those of products and processes aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the aviation industry.

The AVI Awards categories are:

• Student innovator: Strictly for 18 years and above and still studying.

• Emerging innovator: Independent innovator not working for any research institution or university.

• Professional innovator: Working within an institution or involved in a research environment.

• Organisations: Any organisation including research and educational institutions.

• Media: Journalists with an interest in aviation.

Media entries will be judged on concept, coverage and writing.

Thabani Mthiyane, CEO of ATNS, says that as an organisation that advances through innovation, ATNS is proud to provide a platform for local innovators and entrepreneurs to showcase their skills and products.

“We are looking for sharp minds that are innovative beyond the norm.

“We want to attract, recognise and award great products, solutions and processes that alleviate the challenges faced by the modern aviation industry, while also considering improvements on existing technologies, services and products.”

The cash prizes for the 2018 competition are:

• First place: R30 000

• Second place: R20 000

• Third place: R15 000

The Air Traffic and Navigation Services are based at the Eastgate Office Park.

ATNS welcome communities around Eastgate and Bedfordview to submit their entries and innovative prototypes or projects.

The closing date for entries is midnight September 21.
