Get knitting this Mandela Day

Each scarf will have the special 67 Blankets trademark label sewn onto it and a special message encouraging the needy to take them.

Edenvale KnitWits for Madiba again embarked on its annual secret scarf day mission to help those in need.

Like many volunteers across the country, Edenvale knitters have been knitting scarves for 67 Blankets Secret Scarves Shhh (SSS) mission.

SSS, a nationwide initiative, will see thousands of scarves tied to trees at various spots across the country for people in need to take for some winter warmth.

Some of the scarves hung in trees in previous years.

The Edenvale group will hang the scarfs they knitted on the walls of Khanyisa Trust at 58 Seventh Avenue.

2018 marks the fourth year that the initiative is held.

Carolyn Steyn, the founder of 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day said KnitWits and Happy Hookers have been lobbying, knitting and crocheting to make sure thousands of scarves are made.

One of the special messages attached to each scarf.

Each scarf will have the special 67 Blankets trademark label sewn onto it and a message encouraging the needy to take them.

“This initiative is also a teaser activation for the record-breaking 27km scarf we will be laying out in Howick at the capture site of Mandela on July 29,” said Steyn.
