Assisting in obtaining their matric certificate

He became concerned about what they do when they fail to obtain a matric certificate.

After 20 years in the education sector, Clay Springfield saw a need to assist learners without matric to achieve their goals.

He became concerned about what they do when they fail to obtain a matric certificate.

“The idea was born from seeing the need to do something for the young people who do not pass the NSC exam. They are sitting at home with no hope and no future.

“Without a matric certificate, they are effectively unemployable and I felt something needs to be done,” said Springfield.

Springfield Education is a centre where young people can be assisted in learning day to day skills and empowers them.

The services offered are matric for the un-matriculated (MUM), learner development infrastructure and school management.

“Springfield is about positive community intervention, helping young people take responsibility for their own lives. We empower with real life, day to day skills needed to make a living,” he said.

He said education plays an important role in life and if young people are not given a chance because they failed matric they become lost and have no idea what to do next.

He said currently the programme needs funds because many young people have no resources.

“We need the relevant role players to partner with us, in getting the information out there, that all is not lost. We need corporates to sponsor us with time, resources and funding,” said Clay.

He said the long-term plan is to grow the project in terms of the number of young people they can help every year.

“We want to get as many young people as possible to write their NSC and pass. We want to have a comprehensive resource centre that will help from obtaining an NSC to finding a job, acquiring skills, accessing opportunities via our platform and counseling where needed,” he said.

Currently, the centre invites schools to be part of the project.
