Get your children off the streets with Vulinkungu

JOBURG – I would like to see more children to join this group. There is no fee of joining.

The Vulinkungu Youth Group is looking for more youngsters to join the group.

Founder of the group Sindi Ndlela said she started the group as a way of keeping children off the streets.

“Vulinkungu was founded in 2016 after we noticed children walking around the streets on weekends.

“Children in Malvern do not have a place to go where they can do their homework. Some walk up and down the streets during weekends as they don’t have any extramural activities.

“I approached some children who were walking up and down the street. They told me that they don’t have anything to do on weekends and I decided to form the Vulinkungu Youth Group to help keep them off the streets,” she said.

Vulinkungu youth group needs more youngsters to join the group.

Ndlela said dancing became a part of her life as she danced throughout her schooling days. As a young girl, she performed drama and participated in dance groups.

“I grew up participating in drama and school choirs and dance groups. I also had an opportunity to represent my school in traditional dance in London. I am now sharing my talents with the youngsters,” she said.

Ndlela pleads with parents to support the group.

“I would like to see more children join this group. There is no fee for joining and there is no age restriction. I am now training 26 children. I teach them traditional dance, singing, drama performance, support group and I also assist them with their school projects,” she said.

The group meets every Saturday and Sunday at 2pm at the Cleveland SAPS. Contact Ndlela on 072 516 6513.
