Residents receive donations from church

"This is our way of giving back to those who are less fortunate."

Jumpers informal settlement residents received food parcels from the Seventh-Day Adventist Church recently.

Member of the church Phakhisani Mhlophe said they chose to donate food parcels to Jumpers residents as they are the closest settlement to their church.

“During this time, we make a difference in communities that we live in. There is a different theme each year. This year’s theme is Food and Water Distribution.

“We realised that Jumpers don’t have water shortages and we changed the theme to clothes and food parcels. Every person was given a task to buy something to donate to those who are less fortunate. I would like to send my gratitude to everyone in the church who make this day possible,” he said.

Jumpers resident Gloria Sifu said she is grateful for the donations.

“I have been a resident here for more than 10 years. It is not easy to live here with our shacks burning every now and then. I always have to buy new clothes for the children and have very little left to take care of them. The donations will really help my family,” she said.
