Crime prevention operation takes to the air

During the operation Edenvale Police Station’s station, commander Colonel Sudesh Sookraj provided air support to ground units from the Gauteng SAPS’ helicopter.

Edenvale’s men and women in blue took to the streets and the air during a crime prevention operation on April 18.

The operation, which was conducted throughout Edenvale, focused on crime hotspots in the town.

During the operation Edenvale Police Station’s new commander Colonel Sudesh Sookraj was on the Gauteng SAPS helicopter that provided support to ground units from the air.

Security companies from Edenvale assisted in the operation.

The operation resulted in the arrest of five suspects which included one arrest for fraud, one for dealing in narcotics, one for possession of narcotics and two for possession of marijuana.

“Marijuana is seen as a different drug in terms of the law. The charge is often less severe than for those found in possession of powder-based drugs,” said Captain Jean Olckers, the spokesperson of the Edenvale Police Station.

“It is still illegal to be in the possession of marijuana.”

In addition to the arrests made during the operation, police officers arrested a further five suspects on the same day.

The additional suspects were arrested for crimen injuria, intimidation, contempt of court, forgery and uttering (passing off a forged document).
