SAPS find rifles and ammunition

JOBURG – During the investigations it was discovered that the goods were stolen during house break-in in Middleburg

Johannesburg East SAPS Cluster recovered firearms and ammunition at the corner of Hans and Marshall streets in Jeppestown recently.

Jeppe SAPS spokesperson Captain Richard Munyai said police received a phone call from Bobe Security Company about rifles and ammunition found lying in the bush on March 15.

“Police called for backup from the Johannesburg Flying Squad and proceeded to the given address. When they arrived, the security guard took them to a bushy area and showed them the items.

“The guard alleged that an alarm went off at their building and he went to investigate. He then saw the firearms and immediately alerted the police,” he said.

“The items were taken to Jeppe SAPS and an inquiry was opened.”

The person whose name appeared on the documents was contacted.

During the investigations, it was discovered that the goods were stolen during a house burglary in Middelburg on March 11.

“The complainant alleged that the burglary took place while he was at church. A case of house burglary and theft has been opened at Middelburg SAPS,” said Munyai.
