Reddam House hosts Open Day

Reddam House Bedfordview held its annual Open Day on March 10.

Reddam House Bedfordview held its annual Open Day on March 10.

It was also the official opening and ribbon-cutting of the Reddam House BCC Campus’ new double-storey education block.

The long-time Bedfordview resident Clarence Johnston was on hand to cut the ribbon at the ceremony signifying the launch of Reddam House Bedfordview into a new phase.

Clarence, at the age of 94, is one of Bedfordview’s oldest residents who clearly understands the importance of leaving a legacy for our children. He bought his residential ground in Bedfordview in 1947, the year before he married his wife, Hazel (91) and built his house in 1966. This year in October, they will have been married for 70 years.

Clarence’s son, Raymond, is a teacher at Reddam House and Clarence and Hazel’s grandsons, Reddam alumnus Travis, an internationally recognised South African musician also teaches bass guitar and drums at Reddam. Younger brother Ryan matriculated from Reddam in 2012. Their granddaughter, Kelly and great-grandson, Jayden, are currently students at the College section of Reddam House.

“The exponential growth of Reddam House Bedfordview across all three phases of the school is a humbling experience and it was a fitting occasion to celebrate and dedicate this remarkable new school building block,” said Dalene Quayle, director and headmistress of Reddam Bedfordview.

Reddam House College has enjoyed a 100 per cent matric pass rate since the inception of the high school. In 2017, all matric learners achieved 100 per cent university entrance. Just recently Reddam Bedfordview was ranked the fourth best school in Johannesburg, an achievement of which all at Reddam are very proud.
