Margaret was selected to be the president of the club in 2017 after former president Marilyn McTaggart resigned.

“It is a wonderful honour to be chosen as the president of the club,” said Margaret.

“I want to help ordinary people in a big way.”

Margaret, who has always considered herself to be a helpful person began assisting others at a young age.

As a child, Margaret was a girl guide. She later became a Round Table lady.

“I have always had a passion to help those in need,” said Margaret.

As president Margaret will run meetings and co-ordinate events.

“All the members are self-motivated and enthusiastic to help,” said Margaret.

This year Margaret hopes to start a new project to help the community.

She wants to assist Vukuhame Crèche.

Margaret said the crèche is in desperate need of a new fridge.

The fridge will be used to store fresh food for the children.

In addition to a new fridge, Margarett hopes to start a vegetable garden at the crèche.

The vegetable garden will reduce the running costs of the crèche.

“I want to help Vukuhame because children have always been close to my heart,” said Margaret.

“Helping others feels so rewarding.”

The Lioness of 20 years said she will also continue the projects started in previous years.

Some of the projects already running include:

• The Toy for Joy Campaign.

• Collecting food for animals and people in need.

• Distributing stationary to underprivileged children.

• Collecting baby clothes, blankets and toiletries for the Edenvale Hospital.

“We desperately need items for babies born at the hospital,” said Margaret.

The Lioness Club started collecting baby essentials when its members heard that babies were being sent home without clothes.

“It is the first time in 20 years that we have run out of clothes,” said Margaret.

“By giving clothes and the essentials we try to make the lives of parents and children easier.”
