Yeoville CPF gears up for 2018

Yeoville: CPF plans to introduce new ways to fight crime.

The Yeoville CPF is gearing up for 2018.

The newly elected forum will go through an induction process to make sure they understand their roles in order to serve the community to the best of their ability.

Yeoville CPF chairperson Joseph Dube said after the induction they will develop a plan of action for 2018.

Over the festive season, the new forum demonstrated its commitment to the community with programmes in support of the Catholic Church and African Diaspora organisation.

“We visited guesthouses and taxi ranks to talk about human trafficking,” Dube said. “We also hosted an HIV/Aids awareness campaign, dropping off condoms at guesthouses and drinking places. Furthermore, we held a workshop where gender-based violence was the point of discussion and how as a community we can fight it together.”

Another issue that was addressed was the buying of stolen goods by second-hand shops.

“We visited second-hand goods shops known to the community to be buying stolen goods. We warned them against buying stolen goods and its consequences.”

Top of Dube’s list of priorities for 2018 is the high level of crime in the area.

“We need to find new ways to fight crime, and I will be encouraging residents to use social media to report crime. I will create a YouTube channel for Yeoville where the community can post videos of crime happening around their area. Yeoville SAPS have been accused of being corrupt, and the only way to prove and expose them is to record those who are doing wrong and have proof to expose them.”

Another project in the pipeline is having CCTV cameras installed in Rockey Street.

“We will be working with businesses in the area in this project,” Dube said. “Businesses will be financing the project. We want to work with the community and businesses in the area to combat crime. I would like to invite the community to work with the SAPS and CPF in order to take back our neighborhood.”
