Help Taonekwa pursue his dreams

JOBURG – “I applied for bursaries from a vast number of companies but I was unable to get it as I am a not a South African citizen.”

Livingstone Elton Taonekwa has appealed to businesses and residents for funding to enable him to study towards a Bachelor of Science in aeronautical engineering (BScEng Aeronautical) this year.

Taonekwa matriculated from Queens High School with four distinctions in mathematics, physical science, geography and life sciences.

“I applied for bursaries from a vast number of companies but I was unable to get it as I am not a South African citizen,” he said.

Taonekwa said his university fees are estimated at around R50 000 this year.

The BScEng Aeronautical is a four-year professional degree at Wits University.

Taonekwa said innovating aeroplanes has always been his dream.

It’s a talent he was born with, but his love of aeronautics grew further in 2012 as he acquired more information about aeronautical engineering.

He started making his own models, but was unable to complete them due to lack of materials and components.

“The biggest challenge during matric was time management and balancing,” Taonekwa said. “I had to manage sports, leadership and studying. I had to give all the hands-up to hard work. I also received continuous support from family and friends.
