Oriel Park gets a makeover

The construction work to give Oriel Park in Bedfordview a new look is currently underway.

The construction work to give Oriel Park in Bedfordview a new look is currently underway.

The park has always been a cause for concern for the local community as deterioration and previous storms have left the park in a state of disrepair.

Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys said the work to give the park a facelift was long overdue and she is happy with the work that has been done so far.

There is a need to upgrade the stormwater infrastructure as the storms have caused serious damage to the park.

The park will have a natural look with a newly constructed water stream flowing through it. It will be fully landscaped and planted with pathways and also have play areas and a jungle gym.

“We would like a big space of natural grass. We don’t have access to water, so I have requested a borehole and I am hoping we will get it as that will help a great deal in terms of maintaining the park,” said Jill.

“When you are doing a project like this, it is important to look at how easily it will be to maintain it. We need to find the most sustainable way and going natural, planting indigenous grass will be easy to maintain. We need to look at the long term maintenance,” she said.
