Eastgate Col’Cacchio steps up to support soup kitchen

"Giving back is something close to my heart."

Management of Eastgate Shopping Centre’s Col’Cacchio restaurant received a certificate of appreciation from Khanyisa Trust.

The certificate was given to Bajith and Joshna Panday on November 22 for their support of the trust.

Col’ Cacchio has assisted Khanyisa Trust for the last several months.

The partnership began after owner Bajith read about the EXPRESS’ sister newspaper, Bedfordview and Edenvale NEWS donating vegetables, non-perishable items, blankets and clothes to Khanyisa.

The donation drive was the NEWS’ Mandela Day initiative and donations from the community were delivered to the trust on August 1.

“I saw the article and thought it would be a great way to help the community. Giving back is something close to my heart,” said Bajith.

Col’ Cacchio assists Khanyisa by making and donating customised pita bread.

The bread is made from excess pizza dough collected during the week. “The donations really help us and our beneficiaries look forward to the treats,” said Dipuo Tekana manager of the trust.

Bajith said he hopes to continue the relationship with Khanyisa Trust. As a businessman, Bajith strongly believes in helping the community.
