Scotsman remembers Edenvale fondly

"Mitch, as I remember, had a moustache and he made films, probably on Super 8 or 16mm, with the children from the crèche, and I recall being in at least one of them, a ghost story where I recall playing possibly a ghostly child."

EDITOR – I am a Scotsman who spent the years January 1976 to December 1980 in Edenvale with my family from Scotland, back when my parents were still alive.

I have many fond sun-splashed memories of the town.

When my brother and I were children, I was six when I went out to South Africa, and 11 when I came home. We used to attend Hurlyvale Primary School.

We also attended after-school at a place called Mitch’s Crèche. I’m pretty sure this is what it was called, as my parents worked and we needed to be looked after until my mother could pick us up.

Mitch, as I remember, had a moustache and he made films, probably on Super 8 or 16mm, with the children from the crèche, and I recall being in at least one of them, a ghost story where I recall playing possibly a ghostly child.

The reason I am contacting you is to find out if Mitch’s Crèche is still around in Edenvale and also to find out if Mitch may still have those films he made.

I don’t recall if my brother was in any, but I would love to see myself as an innocent child in a film I do not recall ever having seen in my life.

We used to stay at 18 Guey Avenue.

I believe this is an interesting piece of local Edenvale history.

We also used to go to Cine Eden on a Saturday morning. Is that place still around?

I have so many fond and amazing childhood memories.

Also, maybe there are others in the town who have not seen themselves in these films since they were children.

Graham Rae.
