Assumption Convent holds Remembrance Day memorial

JOBURG – Poppies are now worn at this time to remember the fallen of all wars. The girls bought poppies to wear for the day. All their donations will go to the SA Legion who assist with the welfare of war veterans.

Assumption Convent School held a Remembrance Day memorial service on November 10.

At a special assembly commemorating Armistice Day, the high school remembered all those who fell during conflict throughout the world.

“On November 11, in 1918, guns fell silent across the western front as Germany signed the Armistice Treaty which ended Word War 1. In the months that followed, the fields of Flanders were filled with poppies.

“Poppies are now worn at this time to remember the fallen of all wars. The girls bought poppies to wear for the day. All their donations will go to the SA Legion which assists with the welfare of war veterans,” said the school’s marketing manager, Marinella Sousa.
