Modderfontein Conservation Society to host October meeting

Dinokeng Game Reserve will be in the spotlight at the next evening meeting of the Modderfontein Conservation Society.

Dinokeng Game Reserve will be in the spotlight at the next evening meeting of the Modderfontein Conservation Society.

Tamboti Bush Lodge owner Derrick Cochran will be the presenter at the meeting.

The meeting will take place at the Modderfontein Town Hall, 1 Casino Road, at 7.30pm on October 19.

Derrick’s quick wit and sense of humour make him an entertaining speaker.

His presentation is backed up by great photography.

It is also sprinkled generously with a range of fascinating anecdotes relating to animal and human behaviour within the reserve.

Dinokeng, meaning ‘place of rivers’, is described as the first free-roaming big five residential game reserve in Gauteng, and probably in the world, next to an urbanised area.

It is a private/public initiative for which planning and development started in the early 2000s.

It was officially opened on September 22, 2011, after the introduction of four of the big five.

The last of the big five, the buffalo, was introduced in late 2012 and a self-drive route was opened in December 2014.

Visitors are welcome to attend this meeting.
