Fête entertains young and old
"One lady just came on the morning and donated a large number of milk tarts. We were so touched and would just like to thank her,"
To celebrate the change of season, Arbor Village recently held a spring fête at the retirement home’s premises.
Robyn Alexander, an administrator at the village, said the day was successful.
“The event is run by all the residents and staff from the village just assist them where necessary,” said Robyn.
The event, which took a year to plan, offered something for everyone.
Some of the items available for purchase included food, bird feeders, plants, homemade crafts and clothes.
The Jeppe Pipe Band and St Dominic’s drummies entertained guests.
Robyn said the garden committee plant seeds early in the year which are cared for and then sold at the fête.
Shirley Valdal, the fête coordinator, said the response from the community was good and visitors came from far and wide to enjoy and support the event.
“One woman simply popped in on the morning and donated a large number of milk tarts. We were so touched,” said Shirley.
She said a portion of the money raised will go towards future projects while the remainder will be used for the support fund.
Shirley said the support fund is used to help the elderly with some of their expenses or unforeseen costs.
