It is alleged that earlier on Sunday morning the suspect jumped onto the stage at the theatre while a band was performing.

“He grabbed a microphone and claimed that he would stop the band unless he got his cell phone. Allegedly, the audience protested and he fired several shots randomly. He then fled the scene on foot,” said Dlamini.

“He was later arrested at the Greenstone Mall where a group of five suspects robbed a business. Police and mall security chased after the fleeing suspects after the robbery. He was then arrested while four others managed to escape. During his arrest, he sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital under police guard.”

“This has been a horrific incident experienced by the audience who were at the theatre to enjoy themselves. Police will never rest until the suspect gets what he deserves. Justice must be allowed to take its course,” said Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng Lieutenant General Deliwe De Lange.

The suspect will be charged with murder, attempted murder as well as armed robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm when he appears in court. It is also suspected that he has been involved in other serious and violent crimes.
