‘Calling on the grammar police’

Caxton Local Media is looking for the next great sub-editor.

    • Are you pedantic about the use of language?
    • Are you a clever headline crafter and a stickler for facts?
    • Do you work well under pressure and within a team?
    • Are you comfortable working in English and Afrikaans?

    Then, you’d make a good SUB-EDITOR for both print and online publications at our Boksburg branch.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Proofing editorial copy to ensure accuracy, correct grammar and spelling.

    • Checking headlines, punctuation and captions on photos to ensure accuracy.

    • Ensure contentious issues are thoroughly checked before publication.

    • Help with staff training.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Three years experience as a sub-editor/senior journalist.

    • Excellent writing and language skills.

    • Extensive general knowledge.

    • Meticulous, organised and deadline driven.

    • Good understanding and knowledge of media law and ethics.

    • Fluent in English and Afrikaans.

    • Own transport and valid driver’s licence.

    • Candidates with newspaper or magazine experience preferred.

    • Must have knowledge of media law and the South African Press Code.
