Scouts participate In first aid competition

The Scouts got a chance to demonstrate the potentially lifesaving first aid skills they learn as part of the scout programme

Scouts from the 1st Kengray Scout Troop based in Highland Road in Kensington, participated in the North Rand District First Aid competition on August 5.

An emergency situation may be just around the corner. The Kengray Scout Troop aims to ensure that the youth are always prepared to assist with life-threatening situations in a safe way.

The scouts got a chance to demonstrate the potentially lifesaving first aid skills they learn as part of the group’s scout programme.

From performing CPR under the supervision of paramedics to treating and assisting seriously bleeding motor vehicle accident victims, the scouts learn skills for life in the traditional scouting way – they learn by doing.

In addition to gaining practical experience in first aid situations, the scouts also got to interact with emergency services professionals. They also got to explore an ambulance and a fire engine under the supervision of paramedics and firemen.
