Sketch(y) artist to put on demonstration

On August 19 community members can look forward to Susan demonstrating the type of sketches done on holiday or while waiting.

Full-time art teacher, Susan Frost, will demonstrate and show how small sketches can be accomplished quickly and easily at the next Paint & Palette demonstration.

Art is not something new to Susan. She can clearly remember her father painting portraits when she was younger.

“When I was six we moved to Folkestone, where I watched the next-door neighbour painting from life in the local park. He was the principal of Folkestone College, where he lectured in art. By then I thought it was entirely ordinary to draw and paint anything: people were doing it all around me,” said Susan.

Other artists which influenced Susan included Anthony Blackman, Titta Fasciotti and Andrew Verster

The three artists taught Susan how to paint with pastels, oils, how to do portraits and life drawings.

Over the years Susan expanded on her artistic creativity and worked in restoration, the illustration of magazines, books and pamphlets, decorating and designing.

“Looking back on fifty years of art, I realise that my first love has been drawing and sketching from life,” said Susan.

No booking is required for community members to join in on the fun.

The demonstration will be held at the Edenvale Community Centre on the corner of Van Riebeeck Avenue and 2nd Street at 1.30pm for 2pm.
