ON THE RUN: Suspects make off with 130K worth of goods

Police are searching for five armed men who robbed Cash Converters Meadowdale on Thursday just before lunch time, making off with money and goods worth around R130 000.

According to Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson Capt Andrè de Jager, while the cashier on duty was assisting a customer, she was approached by an unknown man who pointed a firearm at her and told her to remain silent.

“She was forced to open the till and the cashier next to her was told to do the same,” explained the spokesperson.

De Jager said the suspects cleaned out four tills and raided a safe in the store office. They took an undisclosed amount of money.

“The suspects also took 25 laptops and 20 cellphones valued at R130 000,” he explained further.

De Jager clarified that, contrary to previous reports, the suspects fled the scene in a dark grey Volvo S40 with an unknown registration.

No shots were fired at the scene and no one was injured.

A case of business robbery has been opened with the police.
