Gillooly’s functions venue to be leased and revamped

Interested parties will have first repair and upgrade the property before occupation says the metro

Eighteen months ago the function centre at Gillooly’s Farm burnt down and to date, the building lies in shambles.

Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys is now questioning the insurance claim and repair process following the incident.

Some of the damages in what was the kitchen in the functions venue.

“I have asked what was spent on insurance, what was paid out, but can’t seem to get answers,” said Humphreys.

According to Humphreys in her understanding, nothing was claimed from insurance by the municipality.

She alleges that the building has been vandalised and taps and fittings have been stolen.

“There was a tenant doing a great job organising weddings and so forth. Real estate says they are planning to get a new tenant,” she further stated.

According to metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe, real estate department is busy with a report seeking council’s permission to request proposals from interested and suitable investors to lease the property on a long term basis.

“The condition of the lease will be that the successful investor will first repair and upgrade the property before occupation and costs thereof have been considered when the market rental was determined by a professional valuer,” explained Gadede.

Gadebe said the report mentioned above was in its final stages.

“The report will be submitted to committees of the council for consideration.”

Gadebe did not comment on the issue of the insurance claims.

The welcome sign at the functions venue was not destroyed in the fire.
