Bennies soccer team triumphant at festival

The soccer team played six games, scored a total of 14 goals and conceded four goals

St Benedict’s College’s First soccer team travelled down to Durban High School for a soccer festival and emerged victorious.

It was the only team not to lose a game at the festival.

The team played six games, scored 14 goals and conceded only four.

The team won three matches and drew three.

This was the first-ever tour for the first St Benedict’s soccer team.

The team played a total of six games, competing against four teams from Durban and two from Johannesburg.

It was a great experience for the boys and the two coaches.

The festival has prepared the team for the coming fixtures back home – two gruelling tournaments at St David’s and St Peter’s in which they will be participating.

Bennies’ goal scorers were: Alessandro Volo – 3, Cameron Kaindl – 3, Michele Betone – 2, Manqoba Mngomezulu – 2, Kingsley Osei-Fofie – 1, Nkurube Mateme – 1 and Reabetswe Masedi – 1.

The following festival awards were presented to St Benedict’s and its players: Best Team – St Benedict’s, Best Defenders – Michele Betone and Daniel Ouma, Best Midfielder – Reabetswe Masedi, Best Goalkeepers – Dean Dagostino and Jacob Groenewald, Hat Trick -Alessandro Volo and Coaches of the Festival – Pietro Volo and Richard Kubeka.

Final results were:

  •  Bennies vs Westville 0-0.
  •  Bennies vs DHS 3-1.
  •  Bennies vs Northwood 0-0.
  •  Bennies vs St Dunstan’s 2-1.
  •  Bennies vs Maritzburg College 7-0.
  •  Bennies vs Waterstone 2-2.
