Community have their say about child transportation

The NEWS asked residents of Greenstone how they would identify a transport service that takes children to school, as being trustworthy.

The NEWS asked residents of Greenstone how they would identify a transport service that takes children to school, as being trustworthy.

This comes after the NEWS’ article on Derrick Thompson who urged parents to exercise caution when using transportation services for their children to and from school.

Sue Haven said, “The vehicles have to be roadworthy, the driver must be licensed and there must be proper pick-up and drop-off points.”
Kira Bickford said, “The school transport system must be legislated. It is easy for people to forge licences. A word-of-mouth recommendation would be more effective in identifying safe transport for learners. I suggest we use the American model in which children are transported by school buses.”
Chantel Nainainsamy said, “It is difficult to identify safe transport for children. I wish the transport systems had a tracker. It is best for parents to stick together to form a transport club.”
