BEDFORDVIEW: One critical following attempted hijacking

Paramedics arrived on the scene and found a man, believed to be a suspect, lying in the parking lot surrounded by security members.

A man was shot several times in the parking lot of a Bedfordview shopping centre in what appears to be an attempted hijacking.

The incident occurred on Saturday.

According to ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, at approximately noon on the day ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found a man, believed to be a suspect, lying in the parking lot surrounded by security members.

“Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained several gunshot wounds and was in a critical condition,” Meiring said.

The man was treated and provided with several advanced life support interventions.

“Once treated, the man was transported, under law enforcement supervision, to Tembisa Provincial Hospital for urgent care,” he said.

The details surrounding this incident are known but the matter is under investigation.
