Quick-acting cops do well

"The 32-year-old suspect will appear in court shortly, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as for the hijacked vehicle."

A 32-year-old suspect is behind bars, a number of firearms have been seized and a hijacked vehicle was recovered following the quick actions of police officers.

The arrest of the suspect resulted in two AK-47 assault rifles and a pistol, with ammunition, being recovered by the EMPD.

The arrest and the recovery of the weapons and vehicle took place on April 13.

Ekurhuleni North Cluster duty communications officer, Captain Jean Olckers, said EMPD officers noticed the suspicious-looking Mercedes and gave chase.

He said they managed to stop the vehicle, arrested the suspect and confiscated the firearms.

“The vehicle was found to have been hijacked,” said Olckers.

The case was transferred to the Sabenza SAPS for further investigation.
