Ken to show off his skills

Ken, who started painting at the age of 17 became a window display artist after leaving school.

Full time fine artist and art teacher, Ken Hunkin will do demonstration on oil paints at the Paint & Palette group’s next meeting on April 15.

The demonstration will take place at the Edenvale Community Centre.

Ken, who started painting at the age of 17 became a window display artist after leaving school.

He then joined PACT (Performing Arts Council of the Transvaal) and was in their choir.

Ken painted and was tutored for five years by friend and artist Johan Engela who was a graduate in fine arts from Holland and was renowned in Europe and South Africa at the time.

After this Ken went into the martial arts where he attained his Springbok Colours in 1970, but keeping his art alive by painting when time allowed.

At first Ken painted in the medium of Gouache before changing to oils which he now mainly uses and prefers.

Community members who would like to know more can join the Paint & Palette Group at the Edenvale Community Centre from 1.30pm on the day.

Entrance fee is R50 for visitors and R20 for members which will include refreshments.
