Saheti takes gold at Eco-Schools awards

This year, the school is working towards achieving international status.

Saheti School has received a Gold Award from WESSA Eco-Schools for 2016, following the completion of four primary school projects aimed at benefiting the environment as well as underprivileged communities.

Through these initiatives, the school collected books to stock a library in an under resourced school and also made puzzles from cereal boxes for Kids Haven’s Early Childhood Education Centre.

A butterfly garden (Uvemvane Oluhle) was established on the school grounds, while learners engaged in various activities promoting the importance of a healthy mind and active body.

Eco-Schools is a school-based environmental management, certification and sustainable development education programme of the international Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

The programme is implemented in 64 countries around the world and by WESSA in South Africa.

Eco-Schools aims to improve environmental management and environmental learning at schools by assisting them to grow and develop their environmental capacity.

The programme supports the National Curriculum (CAPS) and also benefits the school in terms of whole-school development and improvement.

This year, the school is working towards achieving international status.
