Bedfordview women’s breakfast club celebrates Easter

The club raises money for charity organisations in Bedfordview and Edenvale

Anneliese’s Breakfast Club (ABC) came together last Thursday.

Throughout the year, the club raises money for charity organisations in Bedfordview and Edenvale.

Mrs Loretta Morris-Chamberlain of Yukon House.

“We also knit jerseys and blankets for babies, which we then donate to babies at the Edenvale Hospital’s maternity ward,” said the founder, Mrs Anneliese Plettenbacher.

During the meeting, women network and have breakfast together.

This month’s speaker was travel agent and advisor Ms Elmarie Nel.

She spoke about the advantages of booking through an agent.

“Travel can be complicated. This is where agents can add value to your trip. We deal with the airlines and hotels so you won’t have to,” said Ms Nel.

She encouraged the members to travel around South Africa more often.

“I know we all love to travel all over and see the world. There is nothing wrong with that, but I advise you all to look closer to home for your next trip. This country will surprise you. If you never had to leave South Africa, you’d be just fine, trust me,” said Ms Nel.

During the meeting, items are raffled to raise money for charities selected by the club.

“Donations are then made at the end of the year after our last meeting of the year. We identify women and children in distress and then give them from what we have managed to raise,” said Mrs Plettenbacher.

She said the club does not have an official meeting in April, due to the holidays.

“However, ABC members will attend a fashion show at the Johannesburg Country Club on April 18. The show is hosted by one of our own, Gilda,” she said.

The next meeting will be held on May 18.

The members will be treated to a course on Portuguese cooking.
