JUST IN: EMM apologises to property owners for distributing letters with incorrect information

The letters had the correct property owner information but the property description box on the letter contained incorrect information.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) apologised to affected property owners after the metro distributed letters with incorrect information contained within them.

“The letters issued had called for for the inspection of the general valuation roll and lodging of objections as per section 49 of the Municipal Property Rates Act of 2004,” said Mr Themba Gadebe, spokesperson and senior media manager of the EMM.

Mr Gadebe said the letters had the correct property owner information but the property description box on the letter contained  incorrect information.

“This was the  result of an error when merging the data to mail the letters,” said Mr Gadebe.

He said new letters with the correct information will be mailed by the end of March.

A  certified valuation roll is currently open for inspection at Customer Care Centres.

A valuation roll will be available to the public on the EMM’s website from March 16.

“This still affords residents enough time to lodge objections (where applicable) in line with the relevant legislation,” said Mr Gadebe.

Closing date for objections is May 5 at 3.3pm.
