Rowers shine at double regatta

The Selborne Sprints regatta is raced over 500m and consists of heats and finals on the same day.

The U/16 and U/19 rowing squads from Jeppe High School for Boys toured to East London recently to take part in two regattas; the 130th Buffalo Grand Challenge Regatta and the Selborne Sprints Regatta.

Heats are raced with only the top six crews making finals.

The Selborne Sprints regatta is raced over 500m and consists of heats and finals on the same day. Out of 17 boats entered, Jeppe qualified for seven A finals.

The Buffalo Regatta is the priority regatta for the weekend.

It is raced over 2 000m with heats on Thursday and finals on Saturday.

Out of 16 boats, Jeppe qualified for 10 A finals.

Notably, the First Pair and First Four were the fastest qualifiers in their divisions.

The school’s 1st Pair were placed first in their A Final and our 1st Four were awarded 1st place as the fastest qualifiers when the final race was cancelled due to lightning.

Unfortunately, a few of the finals were cancelled due to bad weather.

Over and above the outstanding results achieved, the club was also awarded a prize of R20 000 for being the club with the greatest combination of both transformation and high performance on the water.
