Paddlers get ready for Dusi Marathon

Bedfordview resident Collen Gibbs participated in the race.

The Dabulamanzi Canoe Club hosted a Dusi training race on Sunday, February 5.

The event took place at Emmarentia Dam and participants had to do 18 km of laps around the dam, with 3km of portage (carrying their boats).

Bedfordview resident Collen Gibbs finished the training race as second Sub master, 20th Single Canoe, in 1 hour 44 minutes and is looking forward to the upcoming world-famous endurance canoe race in KwaZulu-Natal.

He is a member of the Victoria Lake Canoe Club based in Germiston.

On the day, there was also a social race for non-Dusi paddlers to enjoy, as well as a kiddies guppy race and jumping castles.

The paddlers were treated to prego rolls and ribs.

The event was a rehearsal round for paddlers participating in the FNB Dusi Canoe Marathon from tomorrow, February 16 to 18.

The marathon will start in Pietermaritzburg and end in Durban.
