Little Eden seeks assistance from community

“We hope the experts will help us to identify and provide recommendations for the society to become more green and efficient.”

Little Eden is appealing to the Edenvale community for assistance in reducing its running costs.

Mrs Xelda Rohrbeck, the operational manager of the society, said the home’s utilities bill is one of the major expenses the society is looking to reduce at both the Edenvale and Bapsfontein homes.

She said currently the society does receive a discount on its monthly tariffs from the municipality but is hoping it can reduce its running costs further.

“The society wants to reduce its consumption and costs of water and electricity,” said Mrs Rohrbeck.

She said by doing this the home hopes to become more environmentally friendly and reduce its costs at the same time.

Currently the home is making use of small water and electricity methods.

Mrs Rohrbeck said the home makes use of both energy saving lights and environmentally friendly shower heads.

She said the society is looking for experts and people with expertise who will provide assistance and analysis to determine the viability of ways to reduce water and electricity usage.

“We hope the experts will help us identify and provide recommendations for the society to become more efficient and green,” said Mrs Rohrbeck.

One of the areas which Mrs Rohrbeck identified as a large consumer of electricity and water is the laundry facility.

Mrs Rohrbeck said the home does approximately two to three tonnes of washing a day for the residents between the two homes.

“We are using water and electricity as efficiently as we believe possible but there is always room for improvement,” said Mrs Rohrbeck.

Some methods already considered by Little Eden include the use of solar power, solar heating, rain catchment and the use of gas in the kitchen.

Mrs Rohrbeck said ultimately the society wants to reduce its monthly tariffs while using environmentally friendly methods.

Individuals who wish to get in touch with Little Eden with ways to assist the society can phone Little Eden’s reception and ask to speak to Mrs Rohrbeck.
