Licencing Department top priority for Clr Humphreys

Topping that list was the extension of the Licencing Department along Nicol Road.

Ward 20 councillor, Clr Jill Humphreys, has wished residents a productive and prosperous the New Year.

Clr Humphreys revealed her plans as well as a wish list for her ward in 2017.

Topping that list is the extension of the Licencing Department, along Nicol Road.

She said the centre can no longer cope with the load, as the number of people visiting keeps increasing.

“Even if more staff were to be brought in, there’s just not enough space to accommodate them. They end up having to come up with ways to set up the various kiosks – and come up with ways to direct queues, while dealing with irate members of the public. I’ve included this on my Integrated Development Plan (IDP) for this year. It would take a load off the staff somehow, because this station doesn’t only serve Bedfordview, but also a large number of people who drive from other parts of Ekurhuleni to get assistance here,”said Clr Humphreys.

Clr Humphreys added she also plans to launch a recycling system.

“Our landfill sites are full. They simply can’t take anymore. We need to start reducing the amount of rubbish we throw away. Waste should be separated at source. All organic or wet waste must be composted and dry waste should be recycled accordingly,” said Clr Humphreys.

She said she would be happy if all the systems worked in 2017, as they’re supposed to.

“I would love it if there were no potholes; for the streetlights to work and for the stormwater drains to be free from blockages,” said Clr Humphreys.

She explained she would also like to have the bicycle park on Skeen Boulevard restored.

“It would be great if one could get that going again. It would take a public-private partnership to do that, but it’s needed. That space will be great for the community to get together and for children to play,” concluded Clr Humphreys.
