Joining forces to combat crime

Working together and fighting crime on a united front assists with the reduction of crime and the preservation of community safety.
November 15 saw the Edenvale SAPS and 24/7 Security working together in a joint visible policing operation on Elm Street.

Two caught in crime prevention operation

According to Captain Andries Matome, this will be an ongoing operation which will see 24/7 Security working alongside the SAPS weekly.
He said the operations will be held to try combat property-related crimes in connection to vehicles.
It also includes:
* The use of false and/or incorrect number plates.
* Vehicles involved in crimes such as burglaries and robberies.
* Stolen/hijacked motor vehicles.
The operation will make use of an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system to analyse vehicles in the Edenvale area.
Mr Naweed Adonis from 24/7 Security said the ANPR system analyses a number plate and runs it through a linked EMPD and SAPS database to determine if the vehicle is linked to, or involved with, any crimes.
“By being out on the street we are doing proactive policing,” said Capt Matome.
