A tribute to the elderly

“Days like these give the senior citizens the opportunity to feel a sense of community and make new friends."

The Edenvale Community Police Forum held its annual senior citizens lunch on November 16 to pay tribute to Edenvale’s Senior Citizens.
The event which was organised by the ECPF’s three secretaries; Ms Lesley Thomas, Ms Joanne Taylor and Ms Helen Simpson.
The lunch was held at Fahrenheit Restaurant.
“The event was organised to give thanks and acknowledgement to the senior citizens of Edenvale,” said Ms Thomas.
She said the lunch gives the senior citizens another outing to look forward to.
Senior citizens from the following homes attended the lunch:
* Eden Haven Retirement Home.
* The Edenvale Community Centre.
* The Senior Citizens Society,
* Magogogo’s from Tembisa and senior citizens who were nominated by the community.
Senior citizens received little gifts which were filled with items and goodies made from and donated by various members of the community.
Ms Linda Mckenzie, the chairperson of the ECPF, said the idea for the annual lunch began four years ago.
“We have so much to learn from the elderly. This is just one of our ways of giving back to them,” said Ms Mckenzie.
“It is important to celebrate our senior citizens,” said Sergeant Mashile of the Edenvale SAPS and head of the social crime prevention unit.
