Volunteers unite to restore Edenvale after floods

"You won't believe what a difference 3o minutes of volunteer work makes in the process of cleaning up Edenvale,"

Community members did not second guess the need to assist community members in need following the heavy floods of November 9.
Although volunteers have been assisting the community and restoring Edenvale, more still needs to be done.
According to Ms Carey Taylor, one of the organisers of the volunteer clean-up groups in Edenvale, the clean-up activities will be taking place for the next few weekends in order to clear some of the damage caused by the recent flood.

“We have surveyed the Edenvale area and found that at the moment the area around the First Avenue Bridge needs a lot of attention,” said Ms Taylor.
She said this coming weekend, November 25 and 26, the volunteer group will be spending time at the bridge, cleaning up the area.
The clean up on Saturday will begin as soon as the public participation meeting in connection with the proposed leasing of J P Bezuidenhout Park to a third party has ended.

“Through donations we have been able to appoint workers to begin the clean-up, while the public participation meeting takes place,” she said.
She said on Sunday the clean up will occur at the same place on both Saturday and Sunday.
Ms Taylor urged volunteers to bring with them:
* Working clothes that can get dirty.
* A brightly coloured shirt which they need to wear for visibility.
* Closed shoes that can get wet and dirty.
* Scissors to cut the plastic wrapping tangled in the foliage.

Although the shifts are 9am to 12pm and 12pm to 3pm, volunteers do not have to spend the entire time there.
“You won’t believe what a difference 30 minutes of volunteer work makes in the process of cleaning up Edenvale,” said Ms Taylor.
Ms Taylor said she and the other organisers will also communicate with the volunteers via Whatsapp and the Facebook Group, Edenvale Hub.
