Bedfordview community comes together

Boundary walls collapsed, houses and units flooded and motorists were rescued as their vehicles were threatened by the water.

Editor – The DA would like to commend the residents and the businesses who volunteered their time to clear the blocked stormwater drains in Bedfordiew after the recent floods.
This is after the massive storms in the area. Boundary walls collapsed, houses and units flooded and motorists were rescued as their vehicles were threatened by the water. There was huge damage inside the houses and most of them were mud-filled.
In some parts of Bedfordview, walls collapsed and debris was spread into the road. There was huge damage inside and outside homes on Grobler Road. The parallel roads along Oriel Stream, Homestead and Lynwood Road were raging torrents. The DA finds it disappointing that the existing system is wholly inadequate and was never maintained and was as a major contributor to the current disaster.
As the DA, we call on the residents and the metro to make sure that all new applications make provisions for on-site attenuation and permeable surfaces. The metro has to follow this through. If all new developments were to adhere to this, the street run off water would be substantially reduced. The DA appeals to everyone to stay safe and take care during the time we are experiencing massive storms.
