Empowering women and children by commemorating 16 Days of Activism

Edenvale SAPS to host event to commemorate 16 Days of Activism

The Edenvale SAPS will be hosting an event to commemorate 16 Days of Activism to create awareness about women and child abuse.

16 Days of Activism around the world

The event, which will take place on November 28, aims to empower abused women and children.
“We are hosting this event to create awareness about women and child abuse and how people can prevent it,” said Sergeant Jacob Mashile, the head of the Social Crime Prevention Unit.
Sgt Mashile said the event will feature:

  •  A speech on how to prevent women and child abuse.
  •  A speech on how to approach and talk to to people who have been abused.
  •  Poems from the Edenvale SAPS.
  •  A survivor of domestic abuse telling her story.
  •  Live music from the SAPS brass band and other performers.

Bridging the gender gap for all concerned

Sgt Mashile said the Edenvale Community Police Forum will assist the SAPS at the event.
“If you are not affected by domestic abuse and you see it happening, don’t look away, report it,” said Sgt Mashile.
The event will take place at the Newday Church on Twelfth Avenue and will begin at 12.30pm.
“Everyone is welcome to attend the event,” said Sgt Mashile.
