Elderly residents to receive some TLC

Mrs Moodley said since spending a day in the home in December last year, the team visits the home on a monthly basis.

With just 66 days left before Christmas Day, Kloof Road Medical Centre (KRMC) is gearing up for its annual outreach programme.

This year the centre will return to the Solheim Home for the Elderly in Primrose.

Mrs Eve Moodley said the team decided to go back to the home because of the bond formed between them and the residents.

“We have created such a great bond with them. Most of them are lonely and we have seen over the months that we have been there that there is a difference in the way they interact. One can see it, even in the Alzheimer’s patients. Those who always kept to themselves have started to open up and are smiling and laughing with us. We could not just move on. They need some tender loving care and who are we not to give it,” she said.

Mrs Moodley said since spending a day in the home in December last year, the team visits the home on a monthly basis.

She said upon arrival they often read to the residents and share with the elderly.

Mrs Moodley appealed to the practice’s patients and the community at large to make donations to the cause.

Each of the residents will receive a goodie bag with various items.

“For women, the goodie bags will include the following items; hair clip, shampoo, conditioner, nail filer, nail clipper, tooth brush, tooth paste, hand cream and a face cloth. For the men, we will have black socks, body wash, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, hand sanitiser, a face cloth, pocket tissues and a nail clipper. We urge our people to donate these items and drop them off at the practice,” said Mrs Moodley.

She said the residents will be treated to a day of fun activities as well as lunch before being given their Christmas presents.

The event is set to take place on December 3.

KRMC is situated at 17 Kloof Road.
