Man killed in truck crash

"Patients were transported to the Edenvale and Charlotte Maxeke hospitals for further medical treatment," said Mr Ntladi.

A male passenger was killed last Friday after the truck he was travelling in crashed into the back of an stationary articulated truck on the N3 northbound, just after the Van Buuren on-ramp in Bedfordview.

According to Mr William Ntladi, the spokesperson for Ekurhuleni’s Emergency Services Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS), another passenger and the driver escaped with serious injuries.

He said rescue teams from both the Bedfordview and Edenvale fire stations used the Jaws of Life to rescue the entrapped patients from the wreck.

“Patients were transported to the Edenvale and Charlotte Maxeke hospitals for further medical treatment,” said Mr Ntladi.

He said the DEMS responded swiftly to the scene for intervention.

“During the operation, three lanes of the N3 northbound were closed for traffic, leaving only two to operate. As per information on-scene, the initial articulating truck had a mechanical breakdown and was parked in the emergency lane when the second truck crashed into it from behind,” said Mr Ntladi.

He said the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) is investigating the cause of accident.
