Environmental scan of k113 completed

"Lokisa have taken the previous comments into account and are dealing with the situation very sensitively,"

The environmental scan/feasibility study done by Lokisa Environmental Consultants and Nyeleti Consulting Engineers of the proposed K113 route has been completed.

Concerned community members, interested and affected parties (IAPs) have the opportunity to raise their concerns and submit them to Lokisa Environmental Consultants and Nyeleti Consulting Engineers.

They have until October 17 to submit their concerns.

IAPs must send written comments with their concerns elaine@lokisa.co.za, fax to 012 346 6074 or via post to PO Box 219, Groenkloof 0027.

Councillor Heather Hart of ward 18 said if the proposed K133 route is implemented it would lead to two one-way roads being created in Edenvale.

The one-ways will be Van Riebeeck Avenue and Hendrick Pretorius Road.

Some of the key impact mentioned in the report include:

  •  Stormwater impact on the Eastleigh Spruit.
  •  Disturbance caused during the construction phase.
  •  Impact on the cemetery on Seventeenth Avenue.
  •  Economic impact on surrounding development and land uses.
  •  Impact on Sense of Place.
  •  Increased noise generation.
  •  Increased speeding /congestion.

Clr Hart said it was unlikely that the route will be implemented anytime soon.

She said now that the environmental scan has been completed comment from the community will be included.

A final report will be written and the report will be sent to the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport.

“At the department it will be documented and filed until it is needed. If the need for the proposal does arrive, an environmental impact assessment will be done and further public participation will then take place.”

Clr Hart said the responsible thing is being done by having this report done.

“Lokisa have taken the previous comments into account and are dealing with the situation very sensitively,” said Clr Hart.

The recommendations of the report include:

  •  Maintain the existing approved route.
  •  Make use of multiple one-way systems.
  •  Investigate cross sectional profiles.

If residents want to read the environmental scan they can obtain the report from Councillor Heather Hart of Ward 18 or from Lokisa Environmental Consultants and Nyeleti Consulting Engineers.

Clr Hart can be contacted on 082 902 1834. An email requesting the scan can be sent to elaine@lokisa.co.za
