Resident thanks the police

"We would like to thank the police officers for their insistence, professionalism, efficiency and effort,"

On the evening of September 7, Friends of Police Gauteng thanked Edenvale police members for their assistance and their good work.

Capt Jean Olcker, spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, said W/O Richard Kgomo, Const Willie Nkadimeng and Flying Squad members Sgt Mashaba and Sgt Mahlwane, assisted a woman who was robbed of her motor vehicle on August 23.

“The members helped the woman and the vehicle was recovered on the same night,” said Capt Olckers.

Ms Polly Liao, chairperson of Friends of Police Gauteng, assisted the woman to the Edenvale Police Station after the robbery, and a case was opened.

She said the woman had struggled with the robber and sustained minor injuries during the scuffle.

“We took her to my home, as she was scared, because the robbers had the keys to her house,” said Ms Liao, who added that the woman was dropping something off at a friend’s house when she was attacked.

Ms Liao said the woman received a call from the Edenvale SAPS at midnight, on the day of the attack, informing her that the car had been located in Alexandria.

“We followed the police cars into Alexandra; on arrival we were impressed that Flying Squad members were already at the scene waiting for us,” she added.

“Within six to seven hours the car had been recovered.”

Ms Liao thanked the officers for their effort and work done.

She said that, on the day after the vehicle was recovered, the woman who was robbed received a courtesy call from Const Nkadimeng.

“The officer asked if the victim was feeling better. He was caring about us and asked if we had collected the car yet. It made us feel extremely warm,” said Ms Liao.

“We thank the police officers for their persistence, professionalism, efficiency and effort.”
