Inyoni Creek residents were treated to music in celebration of Women’s Month

Mr Rocco de Villiers helped make Women’s Month memorable for the women of Inyoni Creek.

His personal assistant, Ms Leeza Mulder, is the daughter of one of the Inyoni Creek residents and she arranged that Mr de Villiers be the guest artist at the retirement village’s Cuppa for Cansa High Tea held on August 17.

“We invited women to host tables to show off their beautiful tea sets and then sold tickets to the residents for R20 a ticket,” said Inyoni Creek manager, Ms Jenny Tonkin.

“We chose to do a bring-and-share and everyone who came brought something to eat. What was left over was then taken to Thembalami Care Centre for their monthly birthday bash,” she said.

Inyoni Creek’s deputy manager, Ms Marinda Looyen made cup cakes and sold them for R5 each. “We also had a donation box for anyone wanting to contribute to the cause and ended the day with a pleasing R3 500 for the Cancer Association’s coffers,” said Ms Looyen.

Rand Aid’s Ms Zabeth Zühlsdorff, GM Services and Advance Division and Ms Ayanda Matthews, GM Compliance and Social React Division, were asked to judge the tables and declared Ms Fransie du Preez’s the best.

“She won a potted fairy garden which was made up by our very talented Ms Looyen and chocolates for all the guests at her table.

“Mr de Villiers was amazing. He had us in stitches of laughter as we travelled down memory lane, listening to songs like Lara’s Theme from Dr Zhivago, Jerusalem and the Sound of Music’s beautiful classic Edelweiss. The chatter at the clubhouse was a true indication that this was indeed a successful event,” said Ms Tonkin.

The visit to Inyoni Creek formed part of a nationwide charity drive undertaken by Mr de Villiers in collaboration with Shoprite Checkers, in which he visits old age homes and retirement villages to entertain residents.
