Tournament a success

"The weekend was really great. I am happy with how the event took place,"

The Accumulo Holland Qualifier which took place on August 13 marked the beginning of the Accumulo Bowls Challenge being held at the Bedfordview Country Club.

According to Mr Phillip Neville, the event organiser, the event which was previously a corporate day has grown and developed over the years.

The last tournament for the Accumulo Bowls Challenge will be held on the weekend of August 28.

The August 13 event which was by invitation only saw 24 clubs partake in the tournament.

Mr Neville said that the clubs who took part came from a variety of locations which included Johannesburg, Germiston, Bedfordview and the Alberton area.

He said the August 13 event focused mainly on the club level and that the two winners of the weekend’s event took part in the main tournament on August 20.

The two winning teams of the August 13 tournament were:

Mixed Bag from the Johannesburg South area, who won the qualifying event, and Boyo’s Beauties from the Belgravia Bowling Club in Germiston, who came in second.

“The weekend was really great. I am happy with how the event took place,” said Mr Neville.

He said it was fortunate that the weather was so good over the weekend for the tournament.

Mr Neville said that the Accumulo Bowls Challenge is not only an opportunity for bowls players to compete against one another but is also a fundraiser.

All of the proceeds from the challenge will be donated to the Accumulo Fund-Raising Challenge.

The two main groups that will benefit from the fundraising are Pink Drive and More Balls Than Most (MBTM). Both organisations are involved in the testing of and creating awareness of cancer in both women and men.
