Church gets ready for annual sports tournament

The Pure Fountain Family Church will host its annual soccer and volleyball tournament on August 27.

The event will be held at the Edenvale Sports Grounds and will start at 8.30am.

The church is inviting the community to sign up and join in the fun-filled day.

This event is aimed at providing a positive impact to the community.

Ms Kerusha Moodley said the event was initially meant to be a once-off event in 2008, when a group of youth were to attend the 2009 International Youth Conference in Malaysia.

They used the tournament as a way of raising funds for the trip and were able to raise enough funds to enable them to attend the conference.

“The idea was born in 2008. The first event was held in 2009 and because of the support and the numerous requests made by the people who attended the 2009 event, we made a decision that this would be our annual event. Over the years, the support received has been phenomenal,” said Ms Moodley.

“This event has drawn thousands of people into our area over the past years. Having hosted this event for six years now, we have had many sponsors come on board to support this initiative,” said Ms Moodley.

There will be plenty of entertainment for children with a children’s corner and a flea market.

“We have seen some exceptional skill and talent over the past few years and we know that this year great players and skills will once again be showcased. This is a day for the entire family to enjoy, so mark it down on your calendar and come join in on the fun,” said Ms Moodley.

The church invites companies that would like to get involved and sponsor the event for next year to come on the day and make their own evaluations.
