Edenvale FC faces stiff competition

Various teams from the EFC competed against other teams at their home ground.

The weekend of July 23 and 24 saw Edenvale the Football Club (EFC ) out in full force at JP Bezuidenhout Park.

Various teams from the EFC competed against other teams at their home ground.

On Saturday, morning the junior sides which included the U/7s, U/8s and U/9s, competed against teams from Alberton, Benoni and the Young Stars Soccer in quarter-final cup games.

The results were as follows:

  •  Edenvale U/7s won 2-0 against Alberton.
  •  Edenvale U/8s won 2-0 against Young Stars.
  •  Edenvale U/9s won 2-0 against the Benoni Northerns team.

The chairperson of the EFC, Ms Dalene Holder, said the younger teams are doing very well.

All of the junior teams that played will be advancing to the semi-finals in their age groups.

On Saturday afternoon the 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams competed against the Zwide soccer team and the Royal Lions soccer team in the super league .

On Sunday, July 24, the U/16 and U/17s played against the Benoni Spurs soccer team and the Luso African soccer teams, in quarter-final cup games.

The results were as follows:

  •  Edenvale 1st team drew 4-4 against Zwide.
  •  Edenvale 2nd team won 1-0 against Zwide.
  •  Edenvale 3rd team lost 0-5 to the Royal Lions soccer team.
  •  Edenvale U/16s lost 2-4 to Luso African.
  •  Edenvale U/17s lost 1-6 to Benoni Spurs.

Mr Big Boy Nxumalo, the chairperson of the Zwide soccer teams, said it was his team’s first time competing in the the super league and he felt positive about the team.

The club was recently promoted from the premier league.

“It has been a hard season for our senior teams – there are a lot of new players, but more commitment is needed,” said Ms Holder.
