Knights-Pendragon induct new president

The incoming President Howard was symbolically given a traditional "Pearly Cap" painstakingly decorated with some 150 buttons.

The Rotary Club of Knights-Pendragon, based in Bedfordview and which also serves Edenvale, celebrated the induction of its new President for the Rotary Year 2016-17.

The Incoming President, Howard Barratt, was originally from London and, acknowledging that, the festive theme for the otherwise formal dinner evening was Bells of London.

Tables were decorated with red, white and blue, Union Jacks and the iconic red telephone boxes. Place mats and the Programme/Menus depicted the landmarks of London and the church Bells from the popular ‘Oranges and Lemons’ nursery rhyme, the Great Bells of Bow, in the City of London.

‘Pearly Kings and Queens’ in Cockney areas are highly-respected fundraisers for community charities and are identified by clothing decorated with pearl-white buttons.

In recognition of the similar charity work and many projects undertaken by the Rotary Club of Knights-Pendragon, Incoming President Howard was symbolically given a traditional Pearly Cap, painstakingly decorated with some 150 buttons.
