Edenvale’s Wasps host successful tournament

Edenvale’s Wasps Rugby Club hosted a successful tournament on Saturday with the immeasurable help of the entire Wasps family.

“The day is not about winning or losing. The main aim of the event was for skills development,” said Wasps chairperson, Brian Smith.

More than 720 players took the fields from both the Lions and Valke unions at Edenvale High School. It was day filled with brilliant rugby and was described a true display of guts and determination by all players who were present.

Wasps performed brilliantly with some exceptional play and nail-biting victories. All players played with heart, courage and discipline, resulting in incredible spectator rugby.

The teams that competed included Wasps, Alberton, Pirates, Khosa, Brakpan and Randfontein rugby clubs, making this the largest tournament hosted by Wasps.

All clubs showed tremendous discipline both on and off the fields, displaying physical fitness, strength and coordination.

“A big thank you is extended to parents, players and coaches for making it a memorable day. The mandate of Wasps is to provide an opportunity for every player from all walks of life to play the great game of rugby, focusing on skills development.

“Wasps Rugby Club caters for u/7 to u/18 and welcomes all players,” said Smith.

The primary focus area of the club is to provide a safe controlled environment in which boys can express and develop their skills backed by highly certified coaching standards, the club continues to grow exponentially year on year.

“Thank you to all clubs for attending. It was indeed a great day of rugby,” said Smith.
